The Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded the University of Pennsylvania Libraries $200,002 to develop an open-source decision support system (DSS) called MetriDoc to support evidence-based strategic planning in libraries.
Building on a decade of work on the Penn Libraries’ Data Farm inititative, this one-year project will create a robust, scalable software platform to collect, store, and analyze a wide array of service data flowing from user activities and interactions with the library. This tool will enhance access to data needed by library managers and reduce the cost and complexity of converting the data into actionable information.
MetriDoc will help advance the use of DSS technology in libraries and provide a focal point for more libraries to cooperate and coordinate assessment and measurement of their operations.
